Bad luck prevents Matteo Cairoli from taking deserved podium at Shanghai
Shanghai, 11 November, 2019 FIA WEC

Matteo Cairoli endured a tough 4 Hours of Shanghai. The Italian driver, sharing the Team Project 1’s Porsche with  Egidio Perfetti and  David Heinemeier Hansson, ended the third of the FIA WEC rounds on the 5th place of LMGteAm category.

Claiming his first pole position of the season in Saturday’s qualifying, the Italian driver produced an impressive performance in his last driving stint, although a couple of misfortunes hitted his team-mates during the first part of the race.

At the first corner of the opening lap Perfetti had a contact with the Dalla Lana’s Aston Martin. It costed the Norwegian racer a drive through penalty. Furthermore Heinemeier Hansson spun at turn 7. That brought Cairoli to fight back for a top-five finish.

“Considering the time lost, I can say we should win this race”, Cairoli said, “It was a shame as we had a great pace here.”

Next round will be in Bahrhain, on 12th/14th December, where the Bapco 8-hour race will take place.
