Matteo Cairoli ended the 6 Hours of Fuji, second of the FIA WEC 2019-2020 rounds, claiming the seventh place in the LMGte Am category, sharing the driving duties with Egidio Perfetti and David Heinemeier-Hansson.
After setting the fourth time in Saturday’s qualifying, the Team Project 1’s Porsche started from the second row of the grid to move down early, consequently a contact caused by another car. Despite some aerodynamic damage Cairoli, Perfetti and Heinemeier-Hansson were able to continue.
Eventually they paid two 5-second penalty for unsafe release and Full-Course-Yellow infringement, to finish back.
“My team-mates made a couple of mistakes and stewards handed us two penalties”, Cairoli said, “But the most rilevant thing was that the Aston Martins were too fast here. We didn’t have the right pace and speed. This year the LMGTe Am category is highly competive and the one with the largest number of cars. I am confident in the next rounds”.The FIA WEC Championship resumes in one month, with the 4H Shanghai on 8th/9th/10th November.
