Matteo Cairoli makes his return to Barcelona, where he claimed his first ever Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup victory in 2016. In Spain the Porsche Young Professional driver enters this weekend the third out of six European Le Mans Series rounds, sharing the duties with Christian Ried and compatriot Riccardo Pera in a 911 RSR car.
After taking a superb victory in his category at Monza, the Dempsey-Proton Racing trio tops the LMGTE standings. Cairoli looks for “three in a row”, as he secured the pole position both at the Le Castellet opener and on his home-track. The 23-year-old Como based racer set the quickest laptime in the Wednesday’s testing and is quite confident for the race.
“I love this circuit. I have good memories of it. Here I took my first Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup win. Furthermore this will be a very unusual race, as part of it will be held in the evening. That will help us to save the tires,” said Cairoli.
The 4 Hours of Barcelona will start on Saturday at 18.30. Qualifying kicks off the weekend tomorrow morning.
