Matteo Cairoli endured a difficult weekend at his home track to finish the 6H Monza in fourth position in the LMGTE Am category.
After having secured the second place at the 8 Hours of Portimão, the Como-based racing driver and his team-mates Egidio Perfetti and Riccardo Pera ended the third out of six 2021 FIA WEC rounds out of the podium.
Starting from third, the Team Project 1 Porsche 911 RSR shared by the Italian-Norwegian trio was constantly among the top five.
"I am a bit disappointed. I really expected to finish strongly, but we didn't have enough speed", Cairoli explained. "Although we moved back from third to fifth in the standings, we shortened the points gap to the lead."
Cairoli, Pera and Perfetti are now only 14 points shy the first placed crew, looking forward the "big one". Next championship round will be the 24 Hours of Le Mans, from 18th to 21st of August. Cairoli will hit the track again in less than two weeks facing the 24H Spa-Francorchamps.
