"The car was really good. Shame we couldn't finish better." Matteo Cairoli is a bit disappointed, although the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance opener showed a great package indeed.
At the Imola track the 24-year-old Italian racer claimed the top-10 overall with the Dinamic Motorsport-run Porsche, alongside his team-mates Christian Engelhart and Sven Müller. This result followed a difficult qualifying, where different situations prevented him to take full advantage of his 911 GT3 R car.
To complete the first driving stint in the race was Engelhart. The German started from the fifth row of the grid to recover well to the sixt position. A petrol pump problem during the first pit-stop and a drive through for speed limit infringement of Engelhart in a Full Course Yellow period, slowed Cairoli in the second hour.
Eventually in the last pit-stop, when Cairoli handed over to Müller, a similar fuel pump isue caused a loss of time again. Despite that the team Dinamic Motorsport trio ended on P10.
Now the next commitment for Cairoli will be at the mid-August 6 Hours of Spa in the FIA WEC Championship.
