Matteo Cairoli faces unlucky ELMS 4 Hours of Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain, 21 July, 2019 European Le Mans Series

Matteo Cairoli endured a frustrating weekend at Barcelona, for the third out six European Le Mans Series rounds. The Porsche Young Professional racer, sharing the duties in the Dempsey-Proton Racing’s 911 RSR car with young compatriot Riccardo Pera and  Christian Ried, claimed a disappointing sixth position in the LMGTE category.

After starting from P7, an early Full Course Yellow costed the Italian-German crew 40 seconds. They lost one more minute when, during one of the drivers changes, an electric issue switched off the engine. Eventually they also had a puncture with 12 minutes to the flag.

“We had a great pace, but were very unlucky”, explained Cairoli.

In the drivers’ standings the Dempsey-Proton Racing trio lost the first place and now is second, with a 15-point gap from the lead.

The next European Le Mans Series round will be the 4 Hours of Silverstone scheduled for the last weekend of August. This week Cairoli takes part in the FIA WEC Prologue at the same Barcelona track.
