Matteo Cairoli and his team-mates Christian Ried and Riccardo Pera finished as runner-up the European Le Mans Series season. Despite the sixth and last round of the Championship ended at the very first lap for the Dempsey-Proton Racing trio, the two Italians and the German driver could celebrate at the circuit de Algarve the vice champion title in the LMGTe category.
In Portugal, Cairoli claimed his fourth pole position of the year in the Saturday's qualifying, after having also topped the free practice 2. Ried took the start of the race on Sunday, but after some turns his #77 Porsche was involved in a tangle with several other cars and forced to stop. Eventually the race was red-flagged.
"It was a bitter finale. Ried was in the wrong place at the wrong time", Cairoli said, "The positive side of the weekend, in addition to the pole position, was that we finished second in the Championship".
A the end of a strong season in which they also claimed a victory at Monza, Cairoli, Pera and Ried clinched a well deserved result. The next commitment for the Porsche Young Professional driver will be in two weeks, on 9th/10th November, in the third round of the FIA WEC Championship at Shanghai.
