Matteo Cairoli returns to FIA WEC this weekend as the 2019/2020 season resumes in Austin with the Lone Star Le Mans 6 Hours of COTA, fifth of the eight-round calendar. The 23-year-old arrives back on Texas with a LMGTe Am top-5 finish.
The Italian driver - who shares the Team Project 1 #56 Porsche car with Egidio Perfetti and newcomer Laurents Hörr - is pretty confident the trio has the potential to aim at a good result, despite the American venue holds not very happy memories for him.
“After a long time I am definitively seeking the podium. My memories of Austin are not the best because that’s where I lost the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup title in 2016 and I missed a podium finish in the FIA WEC a year later due to mechanical problems”, Cairoli said, “I want to redeem myself. After some years I hope we have more luck. We’ll try to adopt a maximum attack strategy.”
The Lone Star Le Mans starts on Saturday with the free practice sessions. The 20-minute qualifying gets underway at 17,40 pm. The 6-hour race begins on Sunday at 12 pm local time.
