The 24 Hours of Dubai ended prematurely for Matteo Cairoli as a gearbox issue stopped his Dinamic Motorsport-run Porsche 911 GT3 R car shared with Mauro Calamia, Stefano Monaco and Roberto Pampanini.
Starting from the fifth position of the grid - consequently a penalty handed to Monaco after a Code-60 infringement in the Thursday's night practice - the Italy-based racing driver who set the second best time in qualifying, constantly fought for the main positions alongside his team-mates, taking the seventh place before being forced to a retirement with only one hour and half to go.
"It was a very tough race. We struggled during all the weekend due to some contacts and mechanical problems", Cairoli said. "It was a shame because we had the right pace indeed. Nevertheless I had a lot of fun".
24 Hours of Dubai marked the season opener for Cairoli, looking forward an exciting 2021.
