Two racing weekends in a row for Matteo Cairoli, who is facing the two final rounds of the FIA WEC scheduled for this week and the next one. Both events are taking place on the Bahrain Circuit, the first out of the two commitments being the 6 Hours of this weekend. The Italian driver will participate in this event driving once again Team Project 1 Porsche, a car he has been sharing with his teammates Riccardo Pera and Egidio Perfetti since the beginning of the year.
“We are heading to Sakhir in full attack mode”, Cairoli said. “We know that we have nothing to lose, being practically cut off from the fight for the absolute leadership of the LMGTE Am. But we are aiming at the second or third place in the championship, which are still absolutely within our reach.”
With this season coming to an end, it is fair to say that things did not exactly go as expected for Cairoli and his team. There are, however, a few silver linings such as the second class place conquered in the second round in Portimão last June (when Cairoli also took the pole in qualifying) and the fourth place won in the following round, the 3 Hours of Monza.
The program of this weekend will start tomorrow with the first round of free practice, with two more sessions scheduled on Friday, right before the qualifying. The race will start at 10 am Italian time and will end in the afternoon, with a live broadcast on Eurosport.
