Matteo Cairoli made a tremendous start to the 2021 GT World Challenge Europe season at his home track at Monza, with a fantasting opening round victory for team Dinamic Motorsport.
The Italian racer pairing with Christian Engelhart and Klaus Bachler in a Porsche 911 GT3 R car, after having experienced a difficult weekend's start in terms of setup that put him and his team-mates on P12 in the qualifying moved up to the first position to secure a superb victory.
Engelhart took the opening stint when all the cars pitted in the early stage to change the tyres from slick to wet as the rain started to fall after few minutes. The German driver handed the Porsche over to Cairoli after the first hour. Matteo recovered well taking the lead before Bachler completed the last stint with 2.886s ahead the Jules Gounon's Mercedes.
"It was an unexpected win. Everything went well, except when the engine stalled during the first pit-stop. It's really incredible to start the season in this fantastic way", said Cairoli - who already claimed a Gt World Challenge victory in 2020 at the Nürburgring alongside Engelhart and Sven Müller. The next Endurance Cup round is scheduled for 28/30 May at the French Circuit Paul Ricard.
